Join Dublin, Ohio's unique offer: Free beer for Dubliners from Ireland! Celebrate St. Patrick's Day with us across the pond. Cheers!
St. Patrick's Day brings with it a wave of festivities worldwide, but this year, Dubliners in Ireland have an unexpected offer on the table – free beer in Ohio's very own "other Dublin." Yes, you read that right. The visitor's bureau in Dublin, Ohio, is extending a warm invitation to residents of its Irish namesake, promising them a pint or two on the house if they make the transatlantic journey.
Dublin, Ohio, renowned for its Midwestern charm, is seizing the spirit of St. Patrick's Day to entice travelers from across the globe, particularly from its sister city, Dublin, Ireland. The approach? Simple yet enticing – billboards and advertisements beckoning Irish visitors with the allure of complimentary brews.
Between March 8 and March 18, Dublin, Ireland residents armed with a valid ID can make their way to the visitor's center in Dublin, Ohio, to claim a $200 Visa gift card. This gesture, courtesy of Visit Dublin Ohio, is a token of hospitality intended to cover their bar tab during their stay. As Sara Blatnik, Visit Dublin's Marketing Director, aptly puts it, "We're proud to share a name, and we'd love to share a pint ... or a few."
The campaign, albeit unconventional, is a testament to Dublin, Ohio's commitment to showcasing its unique charm and fostering international connections. "There are a lot of great cities in the U.S. to celebrate St. Patrick's Day, and we think we're one of the best," says Blatnik. And with offerings like the Celtic Cocktail Trail, a spirited parade, and an enticing pub crawl, it's hard to argue otherwise.
Katie Thompson, the marketing coordinator for Visit Dublin, acknowledges the unorthodox nature of the promotion. Typically, the visitor's bureau focuses on local advertising, promoting the city's festivals and attractions to nearby residents. However, with the advent of a new direct flight between Dublin and Cleveland, the timing couldn't be more perfect to extend a hand – and a pint – across the pond.
While the offer may seem too good to be true, it's a genuine effort to foster cross-cultural exchange and celebrate the shared heritage between these two distinct Dublins. As Thompson remarks optimistically, "I sure hope so. I think that'd be a fun story for them and for us."
So, if you're a Dubliner contemplating an adventure to Ohio's "other Dublin," rest assured that a warm welcome and a cold brew await you. After all, as Visit Dublin Ohio's website cheekily suggests, being the talk of the town for crossing the Atlantic for booze – well, that's simply priceless. Cheers to new connections, shared experiences, and the spirit of St. Patrick's Day, transcending borders and bringing communities together. Sláinte!
