Ocean Gives Free Advertising Space to Environmental Charities: A Positive Impact on Sustainability
Ocean Outdoor, a leading outdoor advertising company, has launched its annual initiative that offers free advertising space to environmental charities and non-profit organizations. Supporting Environmental Causes Through Advertising
Now in its third year, the Drops in the Ocean programme continues to make a significant difference by donating 2% of Ocean Outdoor’s annual reported revenue in the form of advertising space across the company’s UK digital out-of-home (DOOH) network. The campaign has provided £6.5 million worth of advertising to 24 charities so far, helping them to reach a wider audience with their important messages.
This initiative targets environmental organizations and causes focusing on issues such as land preservation, ocean health, global warming, pollution, and sustainability. For the 2025 programme, applications were accepted from charities and non-profits hoping to be part of this impactful campaign. Winners of the 2025 initiative will see their campaigns displayed across Ocean Outdoor’s high-traffic digital screens in 17 UK cities.
Highlighting SolarAid's Impact on Sub-Saharan Africa
One of the featured organizations in this year's Drops in the Ocean programme is SolarAid, a charity that works to bring solar energy to remote communities in sub-Saharan Africa. By utilizing the free advertising space, SolarAid was able to showcase the life-changing impact of solar energy on these communities, raising awareness for the importance of sustainable energy in underserved regions.
Environmental Campaigns Taking Center Stage
The 2024 edition of the initiative included six standout organizations: Campaign for National Parks, Everyday Plastic, Take the Jump, Solar Aid, The Reef-World Foundation, and Tree Aid. These charities used Ocean Outdoor's platform to promote crucial environmental campaigns that engage the public in addressing urgent issues.
Everyday Plastic, for example, used the Drops in the Ocean initiative to promote The Big Plastic Count 2024. This campaign sought to highlight the massive scale of plastic pollution and encourage people to take action. Greenpeace UK also took part in this initiative with a campaign aimed at combating plastic pollution, which ran in conjunction with Earth Day and the Global Plastics Treaty in April.
Raising Awareness for Water Pollution in UK Waterways
One notable campaign from Campaign for National Parks aimed to raise awareness about water pollution in UK waterways. Throughout September, the organization’s campaign appeared across 35 digital screens in six major UK cities, including London, Manchester, and Bristol. Jessica Glover, the development manager for Campaign for National Parks, expressed how impactful the campaign was for their mission: “We've got supporters off the back of this with our campaigning, and for us, just having images of our billboards to be able to post on social media is still helping us explain our cause to supporters and funders.”
