WhatsApp Makes Privacy Visible With Global CampaignWhatsApp brings its end-to-end encryption message to life through immersive OOH activations across five countries, promoting chat privacy for all.

“Not Even WhatsApp”: Privacy Made Visible

In today’s digital age, data privacy is one of the biggest concerns among users. WhatsApp has been aware of this for years and has implemented end-to-end encryption to protect all messages and data shared in its chats. Now, the platform is taking its commitment even further with one of its most ambitious global campaigns to date: “Not even WhatsApp.”

A global campaign centered on privacy

Launched in late May, the campaign began with a powerful TV spot created by West BBDO. It emphasized that not even WhatsApp has access to the messages sent between users, thanks to its encryption technology. The ad also introduced a new feature: “Chat Lock”, which helps prevent conversations from being shared outside the platform.

Street marketing in 5 countries: turning encryption into experience

WhatsApp expanded its message with a bold street marketing campaign in the U.S., UK, Mexico, India, and Brazil. Immersive installations in key cities — including London, New York, Delhi and Sao Paulo — brought the concept of privacy to life through physical design.

These activations are designed to reflect WhatsApp’s core promise: no one outside the chat — not even WhatsApp — can see your private messages. One key element is the use of translucent screens shaped like chat bubbles, simulating the experience of entering a secure conversation.

Cultural creativity and local influencer engagement

In London’s Southbank, for example, WhatsApp installed a giant teacup spilling over in front of a screen — a nod to the phrase “spill the tea,” meaning to gossip. The installation cleverly reinforces that some conversations are meant to stay private.

WhatsApp also collaborated with local influencers and content creators across markets to organically amplify the campaign, extending its reach from public spaces to social media feeds.
