Barnardo’s Highlights the Power to Change Children’s Lives in New Campaign from BBH Dublin

BBH Dublin has unveiled an impactful new campaign for Barnardo’s, the children’s charity, titled “Change Their Story.” This campaign, which spans print, Out of Home (OOH), and radio, underscores the life-changing power of Barnardo’s interventions in the lives of vulnerable children, focusing on how early support can alter their futures for the better.

Innovative Use of AI for Authentic Representation

To showcase an authentic narrative of a troubled childhood while protecting real-life cases, BBH Dublin employed a pioneering AI technique. The agency captured hundreds of facial expressions from a young man and woman, feeding them into an AI model alongside real childhood images. This allowed for a realistic portrayal of how they aged through childhood, providing an accurate reflection of the emotional journey children face.

The creative team worked closely with Barnardo’s to select images that best represented each stage of a child’s potential experience, from vulnerability and fear to anger, despair, and ultimately, hope. The final image is the most powerful one: a young adult displaying a genuine sense of hope—thanks to the work of Barnardo’s.

A Legacy of Impactful Campaigns

Sam Caren, creative lead at BBH Dublin, shared the excitement of working on this project: "BBH has an amazing legacy with Barnardo’s, so when they came to our Dublin office with the desire to create a campaign to rival the iconic ‘Life Story,’ we were excited by the challenge." He went on to highlight the simplicity of the campaign’s message: “Barnardo’s has heard every kind of life story a child can tell, and with their intervention—and the public’s support—they can change these for the better.”

This campaign marks the first phase of a wider initiative. "It was great to be able to help break ground with this use of AI, in a sympathetic and just way. We can’t wait to release the next phases," he added.
