Tesco Enters Christmas Dinner Wars with £11.05 Meal for Six
The festive season has ushered in fierce competition among supermarkets, and Tesco is the latest to join the Christmas dinner price wars. With a value-packed meal bundle priced at just £11.05 for six people, Tesco aims to deliver affordability and quality for families this holiday season.
A Festive Feast for Less
Tesco’s Christmas dinner bundle features an eight-piece turkey meal that costs £1.84 per person. Available from 19 December, this deal is exclusive to Tesco Clubcard holders. Despite offering the same eight products as last year, the package is now 25p cheaper.
What’s Included:
-
Small Tesco White Whole Turkey: Priced at £3 per kg for Clubcard holders, a 40% discount compared to non-loyalty card prices. Depending on the turkey size (2.25kg to 4.49kg), the overall bundle offers significant savings.
-
Key Christmas Vegetables: Carrots (1kg), brussels sprouts (500g), parsnips (500g), and all-rounder potatoes (2kg) are all reduced to 15p per pack for Clubcard holders.
-
Extras:
-
15 Hearty Food Co Yorkshire Puddings: 40p with a Clubcard, 46p without.
-
Tesco Gravy Granules For Chicken (200g): 65p with Clubcard, down from 73p.
-
Tesco Sage & Onion Stuffing Mix (170g): 40p, a 5p saving with a Clubcard.
-
Tesco’s commercial officer, Ashwin Prasad, shared, “We know that every little really does help at this time of year. With the traditional Christmas dinner at the heart of celebrations, we were determined to deliver great value even compared to last year.”
Competitors Join the Fray
Tesco isn’t the only supermarket vying for the top spot in festive affordability. Aldi set the stage on 12 December with its own Christmas dinner bundle, feeding six people for £11.45—and no loyalty membership required. However, these bundles differ slightly in content, making direct comparisons tricky.
Sainsbury’s, Asda, and Lidl have also slashed prices on festive vegetables to 15p per pack. However, like Tesco, Sainsbury’s offer is exclusive to loyalty scheme members.
Falling Food Inflation Brings Relief
This year’s Christmas dinner wars coincide with a drop in food inflation rates, leading to lower prices across the board. Research by The Grocer using Assosia data reveals that frozen whole turkeys and crowns are up to 22% cheaper in the UK’s nine largest supermarkets compared to last year.
Feeding the Nation’s Christmas Spirit
Tesco’s festive meal offer represents more than just savings. “We hope our fantastic quality and great-value food, drink, and service with a smile will help to feed the nation’s Christmas spirit, however they choose to spend the holidays,” Prasad added.
With all major supermarkets pulling out the stops to capture market share this Christmas, shoppers can expect a holiday season filled with competitive deals and affordable feasts. Whether you’re team Tesco, Aldi, or another retailer, this year’s Christmas dinner is shaping up to be easier on the wallet.
